Amazon Store and Google Adsense

I am experimenting with Google Adsense as a way to add value to this website. Since I don’t know everything or everyone, the Google ads provide access to outside resources, many of which I haven’t reviewed. Some of them look great, some look questionable. They are all generated by an algorithm that ideally relates the ads to the content of the page. When it works, it works great. In principle, if you find the page interesting, you’ll find the products advertised to be interesting as well. Many of the ads look like things I would buy, though I haven’t as yet.

One of the biggest parts of the experiment has been to apply the ad generator to pages about YHWH’s Laws, and the chapters of the Bible. I did it partly as experiment, partly for my own entertainment just to see what ads the Bible would generate. Sort of a new “Bible Code.” I clicked through Genesis and was pretty much impressed by the relevance of some of the advertisements. Then I clicked through Revelation. When I got to chapter 17, about the whore who sits on the beast and makes the kings of the earth drunk with the wine of her fornications, a Google ad popped up that said, “Hillary Clinton Dictator.” Make of that what you will. I didn’t follow it to see what was on the other side; I was in a hurry. :-)

By far most of the ads have an appearance of relevance, though some were hard to figure out. In Genesis, the genealogy of Esau and his twelve dukes generated an ad for a Dukes of Hazard Dixie Horn. I can see the connection.  I don’t necessarily recommend hiring a divorce lawyer after reading the Law of Adultery, though.

The Bible is free. Everything on this website is free. There are no hidden paid areas or secret subscriber pages. My decision to put Google ads on the pages was not a light one. I weighed the possible spammy commercial effect against the possible added value of having links to relevant external content or relevant products or services. I decided that if there were products or services that were related to the topics here, and that would help someone learn more about YHWH or the Law, I would be remiss to not provide access to them. Of course, if you click on an ad, I will get paid, but that is a side effect of creating something valuable. If there is no value, then no-one will click, and I won’t get paid. It is still up to me to make the content here (and the advertising) as valuable as possible.

Using the same rationale, I have added an amazon store to provide access to books, and possibly other things, of value to someone keeping YHWHs commandments.
Speaking of value, one of my next projects in line is to write a post, or perhaps a page article, which draws together what appear at first to be an unrelated collection of topics, and explain how some of the things I have been writing about relate to the Commandments of YHWH. In addition, I hope to clarify exactly what my unique value proposition is, and what will make this website uniquely important. This project will possibly coincide with another project to completely overhaul the blog and make it more congruent with the rest of the website in style and formatting. Perhaps in another week. In the meantime, I hope to post more meaningful articles during the coming week (and perhaps spend less time tweaking the site).

Until then, have a great day.
